Showmax, the video streaming platform launched by DStv’s parent company, MultiChoice Group, has cut the price of its mobile-only plan to N1,200 a month, from the N1,450 it was previously.

The streaming service provider said on Monday that Showmax mobile subscribers across Africa will pay, on average, 20% less, giving them access to the full Showmax catalogue, with the catch that they can only stream on a single device concurrently and only in standard-definition video quality.

The reduction in the price of Showmax’s mobile streaming plan, a contributor from South Africa’s Techcentral news website, says comes despite MultiChoice directing additional funding to original programming on the platform.

Already this year, Showmax has launched Tali’s Wedding Diary sequel Tali’s Baby Diary; small-town psychological thriller DAM; Kenyan police procedural Crime and Justice (a co-production with France’s Canal+, which is a shareholder in MultiChoice); and Nigerian reality series I Am LAYCON.
